Now let me see a show of hands that says this is a (at this point of time, i wanted to call it 'nangka' and thank God for the revelation and He bring to my mind that 'nangka' is also known as jack's fruit jackfruit) jackfruit. What about durian? What about honeydew? (if you raise your hand for 'honeydew', i suggest you either take more walks to fruits stalls or go back to your primary school and ask your teacher. you have my permission to print this picture to show him/ her)

If you raised your hands for any of the 3 suggestions, you are WRONG! this is actually a... ?? (at this point of time, i picked up my cellphone to call my lovely gf to ask her as she is the one who supplied me the picture and all the info which i'm about to blog) it's called buah talk talak. This cute little thing looks like durian superficially but taste like nangka with a little sourish tangy feeling (like soursop i guess). I have never seen this fruit in Penang or KL before. My wonderful gf got it from Sabah (she's there to climb Mt KK and she made it!! woohoo..!!).

Unlike durians where you are able to keep it in the fridge even after opening for a week and stink the whole house! this buah talak only able to tahan for 3-4 days after 'seeing' light. 2 things i find it fascinating is 1) the spikes and 2) how you know when it's ripe and good to eat

1) the spikes. from this picture you can see that it's like durian..pointy! but it's not. it's actually very soft like rubber. it's like those rubber toys you get at the flee market :)
2) how you know when it's ripe and good to eat. for durian, people normally smell the ass bottom of it. for watermelon, people 'tiak' or flick it to see how juicy it is. but for this..you press it! if it's ripe and good to eat, after pressing it, it will 'come back up' (what's the proper word for it?? :p). if it's not ripe, it won't even sink it when you press it.

interesting isn't it?? :) there you have it! so do not be deceive by its look. just like shades, he might appear to be fit but.... :/ no comments!
